Become a Volunteer
The District Emergency Organisation operates as the volunteer arm of the Department of Emergency Management. The role of the DEOs is to organise and coordinate the resources of the community to allow for an effective response in time of crisis.
Why volunteer
- Give back to your community
- Serve your country in a time of crisis
- Render humanitarian services to your fellow men/women
- Learn new skills which can save lives
- Confidently face new challenges with a winning attitude
- Respond to major vehicular accidents, flooding, large fires, landslides, earthquakes, storms or high winds
The DEO works with the community to develop and operationalise disaster prevention and disaster preparedness programmes to lessen the impact of identified hazards such as hurricane, flood and earthquake, fire, aircraft and vehicular accidents — and is also becoming more involved in the fight against environmental hazards such as love vine and the Giant African Snail.
The DEO reaches out to all groups in the community: churches, service clubs, neighbourhood watches, PTAs, skilled artisans, families, community groups and NGOs — and most importantly the individuals living in the community. The membership is drawn entirely from the community it serves.
